Why fragrance and perfume brands need a different email program

You cannot smell a perfume through a screen. Fragrance email has to do the work a store counter does: describe notes, suggest by scent family, and push samples that turn into full bottles.

Fragrance buyers also collect. A good VIP track treats repeat buyers differently from first-time sample buyers.

What email has to do for fragrance and perfume brands

What to ask before hiring

Ask the agency to show how it would follow a sample buyer through to a full-size order. A store selling discovery sets needs a different plan from a retailer whose customers already know the bottle they want.

Use the questions below to agree a plan for your store. They are planning recommendations; the published case does not establish that each task was used or caused its results.

PriorityWhat to checkWhen to hold off
Sample follow-upCan the store identify which scent was sampled and whether the customer has since bought a full-size bottle? Agree the follow-up and exit rules before writing the emails.Do not build a sample sequence if sample orders cannot be distinguished from other purchases.
Product discoveryUse scent-family and product-interest information the customer supplied or the catalog supports. Let a buyer explore other scents instead of locking them into one assumed preference.Do not infer a person's taste from a single gift purchase.
Repeat purchaseCheck purchase intervals by product and size before choosing a reminder date. Ask who will keep recommendations and stock information current.Leave fixed refill schedules until the order history supports them.

Plan sends around the buying cycle

MomentDecision to agree
Discovery-set launchAgree the sample offer, available stock and the full-size follow-up before inviting the whole list.
Gifting deadlineWork back from the delivery cut-off. Give known gift shoppers useful shipping and presentation information.
After purchaseCheck delivery and subsequent orders before suggesting a full bottle or another scent.

What the quote should cover

Ask the quote to separate catalog and event-data work, sample follow-up, copy/design, Klaviyo setup and ongoing campaigns. A new sample journey may need its own build; do not assume it is included in a monthly send allowance.

Check the original evidence

The perfume source documents six flows, weekly campaigns and segmentation. It does not establish that scent-family segments or a sample-to-full-size sequence caused the reported results. Treat the plan above as questions for your store, not a reconstruction of that account.

£2,353 to £12,106 in monthly email revenue for a UK perfume brand

Source measureReported valueReading context
July 1–31, 2024£2,353.12 email; £0.00 SMS£23,336.57 store revenue; combined attributed share 10.08%.
October 1–31, 2024£12,106.25 email; £108.96 SMS£28,046.48 store revenue; combined £12,215.21 and 43.55% share.
October flow/campaign split£5,271.71 flows; £6,943.50 campaignsBoth channels combined; not email-only totals.

The headline rounds the email row to whole pounds. The original overview’s £12.2K label includes SMS, and 43.55% is the combined share, not email alone.

The dashboard’s year-over-year comparison is not a measured July-to-October lift. The visible campaign list is not a complete monthly revenue ledger.

These are agency-published observations. The sources do not disclose attribution settings, margins, concurrent promotions or a controlled estimate of incremental sales.

Our pick

If you sell discovery sets, ask how the agency would connect sample orders with full-size purchases. If you sell familiar bottles, compare its approach to stock and repeat purchase instead. The published perfume case does not identify which of these journeys produced the result.

Questions

What is the best Klaviyo agency for perfume brands?

Huge Win Media fits fragrance brands that want published pricing; its UK perfume case shows £2,353.12 in email-attributed revenue in July 2024 and £12,106.25 in October 2024, with SMS reported separately. Magnet Monster fits brands that want email, SMS, WhatsApp, and direct mail on one fee.

How should a fragrance brand segment its Klaviyo list?

By scent family purchased, by sample versus full-size buyers, and by repeat purchase count for a VIP track.

Is email or SMS better for perfume brands?

Email does the heavy lifting because describing a scent needs words and images. SMS works for launches and restocks.
